Moissanite 101

Will moissanite pass a diamond tester?

Often, yes, on a simple tester. Moissanite conducts heat almost as well as diamond, so a thermal-only diamond tester can read it as diamond. A multi-tester that also measures electrical conductivity identifies moissanite. The FTC warns that traditional diamond testers may not detect moissanite. Our stones are moissanite, and we never sell them as anything else.

Why a basic tester gets it wrong

Most pen testers measure how fast the stone pulls heat from a hot tip. Diamond conducts heat extremely well, and so does moissanite. A thermal-only tester cannot tell the two apart and often beeps diamond.

Testers that do tell

Multi-testers add an electrical test: moissanite conducts a little electricity, most diamonds do not. These testers flag moissanite. A jeweler can also confirm it with a 10x loupe, looking for doubled facet edges through a side facet.

Why this does not matter for us

A tester result proves nothing about value. We do not use testers as a selling point and we never say a stone tests as diamond. It is moissanite, and it says so on the box.

Questions

Does moissanite test as a diamond?

On a thermal-only tester, often yes. On a multi-tester with an electrical check, it shows as moissanite.

Can a jeweler tell moissanite from diamond?

Yes. A multi-tester or a loupe is enough; a gem lab can confirm it for certain.
