Moissanite 101

What a GRA certificate means

A GRA card is a report that comes with most moissanite sold today. It records the shape, size, color and clarity grade of the stone and a report number. GRA is a private organization; it is not GIA and it is not an independent lab of GIA's standing. GIA does not grade moissanite at all. Treat a GRA card as a record of what you bought, not as an appraisal.

What the card records

What the card is not

It is not a GIA or IGI grading report, and it is not an appraisal for insurance. The grades are not checked by an independent lab. A card that verifies online only shows that the card exists. If you need an independent opinion, any jeweler can confirm in minutes that a stone is moissanite, and a gem lab can grade it.

Why we include it anyway

Shoppers expect it, and it records the stone you bought. What we stand behind is simpler: every stone we sell is moissanite, the size is as listed, and you have 30 days to return it if you are not happy.

Questions

Is a GRA certificate legit?

It is a real document that describes the stone, but GRA is a private organization, not an independent lab like GIA or IGI. Use it as a record of your purchase, not as an independent grade.

Does GIA certify moissanite?

No. GIA grades diamonds and colored gemstones but does not issue grading reports for moissanite.

How can I check my moissanite?

Ask any jeweler to test it with a multi-tester, or look through a side facet with a 10x loupe for doubled facet edges, a sign of moissanite.
